Info
Dopeness Galore created a project with Timeless records. Timeless is a famous jazz label founded 1975 in the Netherlands. The label holds a catalogue consisting more than 700 titles of the most highly anticipated jazz artists of our time, including: Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, Art Blakey, Lou Donaldson, Cedar Walton, Batida, Machito, Pharaoh Sanders and Johnny Griffin. Interpretations of the last two artists can be found on the first single of a series which will be led to an album.
The A side of the single, Praise, is a “afrofunkballad” created by Jacob Malik Ladder (alias Kid Sublime). After the success of touring with Zuco 103 and creating records in the collective: Rednose Distrikt, he recently created an album (Basement Soul) out on the “Kindred Spirits” label. His interpretation of the Afrika song by Pharaoh Sanders is a minimal afrobeat with vocal samples and Rhodes on top, ending in a hiphop break. We make them party!!!
At the B side we find, Jam in pumpwork, a interpretation of the Johnny Griffin track: The jamfs are coming, reworked by Wouda Boogie. Exploring the goal to bring life into a new vibe, he creates a “melting pot” of sounds and live instrumentation. The track results in a jazz jam in which a boogie break tries to cut trough.
One to excite a club audience!!!
Quotes
smallfish.co.uk: “Damn fine re-edits here. The disco led B-side is a Slow, grooving, funky as hell track that has a truly memorable bassline. The other side is more of a Funk / Latin / Breakbeat affair that’s equally as funky. Top stuff from this new label.”
ifmusic.co.uk: “Sound engineering KDJ and Theo would be proud of, twisted shiit!”
