Rob Manga

Influenced by genres like Soul, Disco, Pop, Rock, Rob Manga found his passion for soulful tunes at an early age. Carefully selecting classic as well as unique tracks and paying close attention to high quality sound, he developed an outstanding taste for music. It was only clear that Rob’s passion would later turn into profession.

Between 1990 – 1995 Rob Manga was the man behind the turntables on Fridays and Saturdays, sometimes three nights in a row, playing House,  Disco, Soul, R&B and Hip-Hop music. His eclectic style of spinning anything from Vocal Deephouse to Hip-Hop, from Classics to New Hits, from Soul music to Pop, as long as it stays “warm, sexy and soulful”, granted him his second residency.

In 1992 he was invited to Amsterdam’s first and later most successful HipHop/R&B-Party called Bassline which started in Amsterdam’s legendary venue The Soul Kitchen later to De Melkweg, later moved to The Roxy and eventually found home at the Paradiso Amsterdam.

However, the ultimate commercial success of Bassline caused Manga to stop DJing there in 1999. He stayed true to his influences DJ Spinna, Kenny Dope, Danny Krivit and those who inspired him like Stevie Wonder, James Brown, The Jackson 5 and the late Jay Dilla. Manga represents those artists in every set he plays.

Yet, his residency at Bassline and Paradisco marked the serious kick off to Manga’s musical career. Starting his own process of becoming more influential, he organized his own events. Teaming up with VJ Supreme Cuisine, they first came up with a Paradisco Jacksons Special at Paradiso.

Animated by its great success they decided to start a night where soul music/video clips is the base. And LEGENDS: was born.

LEGENDS: is appreciated as the best Soul-Party in Amsterdam and presents a unique form of audiovisual event that combines every type of Soul-Music while showing their video clips during a 5-hour-solo-set played by none other than yours truly.

On April 20th 2014 Manga played 24 hours of vinyl on his AM/PM party.
